PA Soybean Board to Host Winter Soybean Congress
Registration deadline extended to February 4, 2014
Harrisburg, PA (January 22, 2014) – A seminar for Pennsylvania soybean producers, focusing on current production research, will be held February 6, 2014 at the Grantville Holiday Inn in Grantville, Pa. Farmers growing soybeans, or interested in growing soybeans, are invited to attend this free event.
The Winter Soybean Congress will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include seminars and lunch, provided courtesy of the Pennsylvania Soybean Board.
The event is free but farmers are required to register in advance by calling the Board’s office at 717.651.5922 or sending an email to contact@pasoybean.org. The deadline for registration has been extended to February 4, 2014.
Speakers will include John Berry, PSU Agricultural Marketing Agent, who will address marketing and financial management issues for soybean farmers. Michael Staton, a senior Soybean Educator at the University of Michigan, will discuss Michigan’s On-Farm Research on Soybean Management and Research Technology. Additionally, educators and researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, Delaware Valley College, and Penn State will review the current research being done on behalf of soybean farmers and their number one customer for soy meal, animal agriculture.
The goal of the Soybean Congress, says Pennsylvania Soybean Board Chair William Beam, is to give producers an opportunity to benefit from the current studies funded through the soybean checkoff and allow producers to interact with researchers, crop management specialists and other growers.
About the Pennsylvania Soybean Board
The Pennsylvania Soybean Board is a farmer-controlled Board responsible for managing Pennsylvania’s share of funds received from the nationwide Soybean Checkoff program. The funding is available under an assessment program, approved by Congress in 1990, under which soybean farmers contribute 50 cents of every $100 they receive for their beans at the first point of sale. Funds are used to develop markets, educate consumers, and research new ways to utilize and produce soybeans more efficiently. For more information, visit www.pasoybean.org.
